Guntersville Lake HydroFest: More than just fast boats

GUNTERSVILLE — It’s called HydroFest – with an emphasis on Fest.

This month, the annual high-speed boat racing takes place on Lake Guntersville, with thousands of people watching the two-day competition.

But HydroFest isn’t just about the race.

It’s also about a street party and the debut of the Rooster Tail Party Tent. Named for the water spraying behind the racing boats, the tent offers a great view of the lake course. Partygoers can enjoy the race with games such as cornhole and giant beer pong. There will be a DJ, lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are $60 per person and grant access to the lively tent on both days.

In addition to the party tent, there is a Club Level – a large, private tented area for on-the-water viewing at the start/finish line.

General admission tickets start at $15, and all active-duty military with a valid ID are admitted for free.

Outside of the party tents and race boats, there is also a kid’s area with water slides, giveaways, and you … more food!

To launch the weekend’s festivities, it’s the inaugural HydroFest Street Party.

The event – set for 6-9 p.m. June 22 – is free and will take place at City Harbor. The racing boats will be lined up for viewing and meet and greets with the drivers.

And, of course, there is the racing.

The action-packed display of talent offers three classes of racing: H1 Unlimited, Grand Prix America, and Pro-lite series. The state-of-the-art hydroplanes race on a 2½-mile oval course and maintain speeds of 130 mph and up to 200 mph on the straightaways.
