HUNTSVILLE — The National Weather Service Huntsville office has issued a heat advisory for today covering most of North Alabama.
The advisory, which is from noon to 9 p.m., includes Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Limestone, Lawrence, Madison, Morgan, and Cullman counties.
According to forecasters, high temperatures this afternoon should rise to the 93- to 99-degree range, with Heat Index values of 97 to 108 degrees.
More hot conditions are expected Friday for the Huntsville metro area, according to the weather service.
“Heat Index values to 105 degrees are possible,” the forecasters said. “Another Heat Advisory could be issued should this areal coverage and/or temperatures increase in later forecasts.”
In addition to the heat, a return of deeper moisture and resultant higher instability will return better chances of showers and thunderstorms to the Tennessee Valley.
Severe thunderstorms are not expected; but the stronger storms could produce gusty winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.
