If pumpkin spice signals the unofficial start of fall, Huntsville apparently knows how to do it right.
Tasting Table has named downtown Huntsville’s The Moon Bakeshop its Alabama pick in a nationwide roundup of the best local pumpkin spice lattes — and this year’s version comes with a little Dolly.
Tasting Table, a national food and drink website, recently released its list of where to find the best local pumpkin spice latte in every state.
For the list, Tasting Table looked for shops known for high-quality espresso and carefully crafted pumpkin spice lattes, with particular attention to creative, well-received versions. Customer reviews also played a role in the selections.
For Alabama, it landed at The Moon Bakeshop on Jefferson Street.
Tasting Table noted that The Moon’s pumpkin spice latte has gone by several names through the years — including “P.S. I Love You,” “Pumpkin Patch” and “Autumn Glow” — and has been consistently recommended by locals and local publications. Made with real pumpkin, the drink has even been popular enough in previous years to stick around for the winter menu.
This fall, however, Huntsville customers won’t find “Pumpkin Patch” or “Autumn Glow” on the menu.
The pumpkin spice latte is “Here You Come Again.”
The name is part of The Moon Bakeshop’s new fall drink lineup, appropriately dubbed “A Cozy Dolly Fall.”
The Dolly-themed menu comes just weeks after the country music legend died Aug. 25 at age 80, giving the song-inspired lineup a little more meaning for Parton fans.
The seasonal lineup includes four Dolly-themed drinks, beginning with “Here You Come Again,” the bakery’s classic pumpkin spice latte made with pure pumpkin and fall spices.
But Dolly — and fall — don’t stop there.
“Cup of Ambition” is a bourbon-flavored butterscotch latte with a creamy, buttery, salty-sweet flavor.
“Coat of Many Colors” is a spiced fig matcha made with brown sugar and sweet figs and can also be made as a latte.
And “Appalachian Memories” is a salted maple rosemary chai made with an in-house syrup using fresh rosemary and real maple syrup. It, too, can be made as a latte.
All four drinks can be ordered hot or iced.
The Moon Bakeshop is a family-owned and operated bakery featuring Southern-influenced and European-inspired baked goods. The bakery was established in 2019 and is located at 201 Jefferson Street in downtown Huntsville.
And for anyone ready to find out this weekend whether Huntsville really does have Alabama’s best pumpkin spice latte, The Moon is open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
