Heritage Christian University to host Ricky Skaggs at Marriott Shoals

FLORENCE – Bluegrass icon and 15-time Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs will bring his Kentucky Thunder band to Florence next month. The concert, hosted by Heritage Christian University, is 7 p.m. Aug. 24.

Skaggs, who has been playing the mandolin since he was 5 years old, is recognized as a master of the genre. As a youngster, he played with legends Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley. In 1982 he became a Grand Ole Opry member and won the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year in 1985.

In the late 1990s, Skaggs established his own record label, Skaggs Family Records, and has since released 12 consecutive Grammy-nominated classics, with eight wins.

General admission tickets are on sale for the show at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center. They are $75 each and may be purchased on Eventbrite. Seating is assigned in the order of purchase.

Heritage Christian has sponsorships available, as well. Contact Ava Johnson at [email protected] or 256-766-6610, extension 315 for more information.
