HUNTSVILLE — While the nation honors those who have served with the annual Veterans Day celebrations Friday, Huntsville is starting it off today with its Heroes Week Welcome.

Today at 3:30 p.m., the public is invited to join the Semper Fi Community Task Force and Huntsville International Airport in welcoming veteran honorees to Huntsville.

After their arrival at the airport, the veterans will walk through a ceremonial flag line organized by Semper Fi. The 313th Army Band from Redstone Arsenal will provide musical entertainment.

Following the flag line, the Veterans will be escorted by a motorcycle honor guard and law enforcement to their hotel.

Those attending are asked to wear patriotic colors and bring U.S. flags and welcome signs to the public waiting lobby on the second floor of Huntsville International Airport. The lobby is adjacent to the TSA checkpoint area. Participants are not permitted to enter the secure gate area behind TSA.

The Heroes Week activities include the Veterans’ Day parade, Marine Corps Ball, yacht cruises on Lake Guntersville, aerial tours of North Alabama by private pilots, and numerous lunches and dinners hosted by local organizations and businesses.
