HUNTSVILLE – Powered by a stifling defense, Huntsville City Football Club shut out Inter Miami II Sunday for its third straight win. Shaun Joash and Jony Bolaños scored and goalkeeper Elliot Panicco had the clean sheet in the 2-0 victory.
Panicco faced just one shot on target, which he said was “kind of a slow roller.”
“It was really a whole team effort,” Panicco said. “The guys in front me did a lot of great work.”
Huntsville City opened the scoring in stoppage time in the first half when Shoan Joash scored off a corner kick. It was his third goal of the season.
At the 63-minute mark, Bolaños’ took a pass from Isaiah Johnston for his fourth goal of the season and the 2-0 lead.
This match was the third in seven days for HCFC. Head Coach Jack Collison was happy with the outcome, despite a slow start.
“It was the third game in a short space of time, a long trip back from Toronto,” he said. “Their play in the second half was magnificent.”
Now, the hot HCFC (4W-5L-3D, 3SOW) returns to the road Saturday at Columbus Crew 2 (8-4-2-2). The official watch party for the match – kickoff is 4 p.m. CT – is at Fractal Brewing Company on Leeman Ferry Road. It can also viewed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
Huntsville City is unbeaten in five of its last seven matches as it aims for a playoff spot.
“The boys are on a great run,” said Panicco, who has split time between Nashville SC and Huntsville City. “It’s one game at a time.
“In the first year … making the playoffs would be fantastic for this club.”
