Huntsville event set to support federal employees impacted by shutdown

HUNTSVILLE – The Huntsville community will host a resource event this week for federal employees who are impacted by the government shutdown, which has been in effect since Oct. 1.  

The event will be Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive. Please use Entrance 7, which is on St. Clair Avenue across from the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. 

Workers may drop in at any time during the two days to meet with the Alabama Career Center, temporary employment services, financial institutions, counseling and mental health services, non-profit organizations, and other groups. Organizations interested in participating may fill out the form here. Space is limited.

This event is being presented by First Baptist Church, the city of Huntsville, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, Huntsville Rotary Club, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Leadership Greater Huntsville, Huntsville Committee of 100, and other organizations.

PARKING INFORMATION

First Baptist Church has parking areas near Entrance 7 on St. Clair Avenue,  but those spots are expected to fill up quickly.

Overflow parking is available at the following locations, and a shuttle service will run a loop both days: 

  • The city of Huntsville’s Garage M at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Church Street (enter on Clinton)
  • Redstone Federal Credit Union’s Twickenham location in the parking deck (200 Davis Circle)
  • Vista at Councill Square (521 Davis Circle, but please do not use the roundabout) 

Shuttles will include city transit buses and vans provided by Spirit Coach and First United Methodist Church.
