Huntsville ‘Fall Program Guide’ lists more than 100 free programs and activities

HUNTSVILLE – If you are new to Huntsville, or even of you are not, do you know where to  get information such as what is the nearest park between your home and your child’s school that offers soccer and lacrosse?

Your wellness doctor recommends a walking club, where do you go to find one?

You just moved to Huntsville and want to know the afterschool programs in the neighborhood.

The free “Fall Program Guide,” produced by Huntsville Parks & Recreation, is filled with activities, events and programs for every interest, age and ability. It will answer questions about local events quickly and reliably.

Dorianne Johnson, recreation superintendent of Community Services, said most people will discover more than 100 free programs they didn’t know about.

“We offer so much more than many people realize,” Johnson said. “This is a great opportunity to try something new.”

The guide displays information in an easy-to-look-up format with parks and playgrounds alphabetized in an itemized chart so you can quickly cross-check locations with offerings.

Huntsville Parks & Recreation offers year-round activities and programs at more than 60 public parks, 15 recreation centers and six sports complexes.

The guide provides resources for walking, fitness and wellness groups; arts & crafts; sports teams and therapy groups; even activities for people with disabilities.

There are walking groups and pickleball play, athletic leagues and aquatic instruction, art classes and salsa lessons.

From Tai Chi to calligraphy, fall break camps to fall festivals, the guide is a resource for fun and nearly every offering is free.

The seasonal program guides offer a glimpse at programs, classes and activities to keep citizens moving all year long.

The guide also shares upcoming special events such as Praise in the Park, Jazz in the Park, Family Fun Day, Party on the Green and Youth Boxing Showcase.

Published four times a year, the guide available for download here.
