A million vehicles have now rolled off the production line at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing in Huntsville, marking a major milestone for one of North Alabama’s largest manufacturing operations.
The company celebrated the achievement Oct. 28 by announcing $120,000 in grants for four organizations that have played a role in supporting its workforce development efforts.
Calhoun Community College, Kids to Love, Morgan County Schools and the Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association will receive funding as part of the announcement.
According to Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, the organizations have helped support employee training and workforce development dating back to the plant’s early days. The company recognized their contributions as part of the celebration marking its millionth vehicle.
“Reaching one million vehicles is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, skill and teamwork demonstrated by our team members every day,” said Erik Skaggs, senior vice president for Mazda Toyota Manufacturing.
The production milestone comes about five years after the Huntsville facility opened in 2021. The $2.3 billion joint venture between Mazda Motor Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. has grown into a major employer in the region, with more than 4,500 team members.
The plant currently assembles the Toyota Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid, along with the Mazda CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid. Both automakers’ crossover models were part of the company’s celebration.
The investment in local workforce partners comes as the facility continues to play a significant role in the region’s manufacturing industry.
Chip Cherry, president and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, said the company’s work with local organizations has helped strengthen its connection to the community.
“Through their investment in local organizations, workforce development and regional partnerships, MTM continues to demonstrate what it means to be a great community partner,” Cherry said.
The company said the million-vehicle milestone reflects the work of its employees and the community partnerships that have supported its growth in North Alabama.
