HUNTSVILLE — Creating an “improved experience” for passengers, Huntsville International Airport recently opened its renovated connector, eliminating the temporary ramps passengers have used after leaving the TSA security screening area for their gates.
“Huntsville International Airport has been surpassing all previous passenger records for the past two years, and we are on track to do the same in 2025,” said Port of Huntsville Board Chair Joey Ceci. “We are preparing for more passengers with new, upgraded facilities and amenities.“
HSV served more than 1.7 million passengers in 2024 with nonstop service to 14 destinations on four airlines. This year, HSV expects to surpass these numbers with 15 nonstop available.
Previously, the renovated area was served by one elevator, two escalators and a single set of stairs.
“The renovations will mean an improved experience for all our passengers at Huntsville International,” said Airport CEO Butch Roberts. “Reopening this important access point with these enhancements is better for all our passengers, especially those who are mobility-challenged or traveling with young children.”
The $14 million project includes security enhancements; three exit lanes have been installed with breach-control doors.

Public Relations Manager Mary Swanstrom said the renovation improves the flying experience for passengers.
“If you’ve travelled through our airports, you’ve noticed that you’ve been using some temporary ramps,” she said. “Some people like those ramps just fine, but we think these look a lot better and they really improve the customer experience here at Huntsville International Airport.
“We’ve doubled the elevators, we’ve doubled the escalators. And then also we still have the stairwells. Those folks want to get their steps in and we’re really excited to launch these exit lane breach control doors.”
