Mr. Monopoly visits Huntsville (256Today)

A Huntsville-themed version of Monopoly is headed to store shelves next year, and the company behind the game is asking residents to help decide what properties will sit on the fabled board.

Top Trumps USA announced that Monopoly: Huntsville Edition is scheduled to debut in March 2027. The special edition will replace the traditional properties, such as Boardwalk and Park Place, with locations and organizations from Huntsville.

According to the company, the board will also feature customized community chest cards, chance cards and Monopoly money all with its own rocket city flair. The project is part of a series of city-specific Monopoly boards produced by Top Trumps USA under license from Hasbro.

“Placemaking is about creating communities that people recognize, connect with and take pride in, and there may be no more recognizable celebration of place than having your own Monopoly board,” said Dennis Madsen, Huntsville’s manager of urban and long-range planning.

Beyond local landmarks, company representatives said they hope to include uniquely Huntsville references throughout the game. That includes customized Community Chest and Chance cards featuring inside jokes and experiences familiar to local residents.

One example already suggested is a card referencing rush-hour traffic on Interstate 565 that would force a player to move backward on the board after getting stuck in traffic.

Top Trumps representatives said they are seeking ideas for those types of local “Easter eggs” and will review public submissions as development of the game continues.

To help determine what makes the final board, Top Trumps is asking the public to suggest locations they believe best represent Huntsville. Businesses and nonprofit organizations can also submit inquiries about participating in the project.

Once released, the Huntsville edition will be sold online and through retail partners, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon and select Huntsville-area retailers.

Residents interested in submitting suggestions for the board can email [email protected] for consideration as development of the game moves forward ahead of its planned March 2027 launch.
