Huntsville man charged with murder after shooting on city’s west side
HUNTSVILLE – A Huntsville man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting Monday evening.
Byron Alexander Peterson, 22, was arrested in connection with the death of 53-year-old Demetrius Jones, the Huntsville Police Department said in a news release.
According to police, responding to a shooting in progress at 240 Martin Road around 6 p.m., officers found Jones in the doorway of his apartment with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Major Crimes Unit investigators determined that Peterson and Jones, who lived in the same apartment complex, had an ongoing dispute for several months.
Police said Peterson went to Jones’ apartment Monday where an argument between the two escalated, leading to the shooting. Peterson was found moments later in a nearby apartment and detained.
A handgun in Jones’ apartment and a handgun in Peterson’s apartment were located and taken from the scene as the investigation continues, police said.
