Huntsville Office of DEI hosting Stuff the Bus event

HUNTSVILLE – Ahead of an upcoming school supply giveawayHuntsville’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) and Community Awareness for Youth (CAFY) are asking the community to help Stuff the Bus this weekend.

“We urge the community to donate new school supplies as these contributions can profoundly impact the lives of young students by ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed in their education,” said Kenny Anderson, Huntsville’s ODEI director. “Your support will make a meaningful difference in empowering these students to learn and thrive.”

Residents can donate school supplies at numerous drop-off points Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Walmart locations

Donated supplies will be distributed to students at the Community Awareness for Youth (CAFY) Back to School Supply Giveaway on July 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at Calhoun Community College, 102 Wynn Drive, Huntsville.

The event is hosted by CAFY and the City’s ODEI in partnership with Calhoun Community College, Huntsville City Schools, Refuge Church, One Generation Away and Huntsville Parks & Recreation. Those needing information on how to make monetary donations can email [email protected] or [email protected].

The goal is to support students ages 12-18 by ensuring they are well-equipped for the 2024-25 school year with free backpacks and school supplies. In addition, Refuge Church and One Generation Away will offer free drive-thru groceries to families, with one allocation per vehicle, while supplies last.

Exhibitors will be on site providing valuable resources for students and families. Attendees can also enjoy music, inflatables and more.
