The City of Huntsville is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, a yearlong program designed to give high school students hands-on experience in local government and community leadership.
Open to rising freshmen through seniors, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) allows students to learn about city operations, engage with civic leaders and contribute to initiatives that impact young people across Huntsville.
Applications are due by 10 p.m. on April 21.
“The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council offers a unique chance for students to learn how their city works and to contribute in meaningful ways,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “Huntsville’s success depends on the voices and talents of the next generation, and we look forward to seeing this new group of young leaders step forward.”
To be eligible, applicants must both live within Huntsville city limits and attend a school located in the city. Residency and enrollment will be verified during the review process.
Students must also submit a completed application, provide at least one letter of recommendation, include a transcript verifying cumulative GPA and obtain parent or guardian permission if under age 18.
Council members meet at least one Saturday each month and participate in volunteer projects, special events and educational opportunities throughout the school year.
City of Huntsville Multicultural Affairs Director Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr. said MYAC continues to be a valuable investment in Huntsville’s future leaders.
“Our young people have powerful ideas, and MYAC gives them a platform to put those ideas into action,” Dr. Barbour said. “Each year, we see students grow in confidence, leadership and civic understanding. We’re excited to welcome applicants who want to make a real impact in Huntsville.”
More information and application details are available on the City of Huntsville’s website.
