HUNTSVILLE – The Huntsville Police Department will close several streets in downtown Huntsville to ensure public safety during the annual Mardi Gras Parade.
Street closures will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday ahead of the parade, which starts at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Meridian Street and Cleveland Avenue.
The parade will travel along Meridian Street, Monroe Street, Washington Street, East Side Square, Eustis Avenue, Greene Street, and conclude at the Lumberyard parking lot.
The “throw zone” will be from Washington Street and Holmes Avenue to Greene Street and Eustis Avenue.
Drivers should anticipate traffic delays in the downtown area. Those needing access to locations along the parade route are encouraged to take alternate routes and allow extra time for travel. Parking will be restricted near the parade route.
HPD urges residents to follow all detours and road signage, and to exercise caution when traveling through downtown during the event.
