MIAMI — With all of the apartment and rental home developments going up in the area, Huntsville finds itself in the top 10 markets for renting, a recent report from WalletHub said.

According to WalletHub, the Huntsville area ranks No. 7 in its “Best Places to Rent in America” list. WalletHub is a personal finance company that empowers consumers to lead financially healthy lives.

The study compared more than 180 rental markets based on 21 key measures of rental attractiveness and quality of life. The data set ranges from the difference between rental rates and mortgage payments to historical price changes, the cost of living, and job availability.

“In the best cities for renters, rent can cost you as little as around 15% of your income,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “You’ll also have access to robust laws that protect renters, such as limiting deposits to only a month or two of rent. Our study also considers quality-of-life factors such as a city’s traffic congestion, job market or recreation options to make sure you can get a good living experience, not just inexpensive housing.”
Huntsville ranked 10th in rental market and affordability rate and 12th in quality of life. Among other cities in the state, Mobile is 61st, Montgomery is 86th, and Birmingham is 163rd.

The top 10 are Overland Park, Kan.;, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Chandler Ariz; Gilbert, Ariz; Bismarck, N.D.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Huntsville; Peoria, Ariz.; Lewiston, Maine; and Nashua, N.H. The complete rankings can be viewed here.
