HUNTSVILLE – Local classrooms are preparing to re-open for the 2024-25 school year next month and Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation department and the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library are throwing a party in advance of the occasion.
The third annual Rec and Read free back-to-school bash for children ages 4-7 featuring educational and leisure activities will be Monday from 9-11 a.m. at Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center (3011 Sparkman Drive).
The event is part of a lineup of events held throughout July celebrating Parks and Recreation Month.
“This is a great event for young children as they get ready to start back to school or, in some cases, start their first year of school,” Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett said. “And we’re excited to work with HMCPL to provide such a unique and entertaining opportunity for the children in our community.”
Interactive storytelling will be from 9-10 a.m., followed by recreational time with a foam party, crafts and popsicles from 10-11 a.m.
“The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is delighted to partner with Huntsville Parks & Recreation for the third year to bring Rec and Read to our community,” said HMCPL Interim Director Connie Chow. “This program offers children the joy of Storytime and outdoors on a playground, aligning perfectly with our summer reading theme, ‘Adventure Begins in the Library.’
“Partnerships like this allow us to serve families where they need us most while fostering a love for reading and enjoying the remarkable outdoor spaces in our area.”
