HUNTSVILLE – Wes Kelley, president and CEO of Huntsville Utilities, was named “Leader of Leaders” in the most recent graduating class of the Valley Public Power Leadership Academy (VPPLA). The VPPLA is a joint venture of the Tennessee Valley Authority and power companies within the Tennessee Valley.
“Wes Kelley is a true statesman who commands attention in a room,” said Lauren Pelto, director of Government and Community Relations, TVA Regional Relations and VPPLA Cohort 2 Alum. “He’s thoughtful in his approach and always looking forward. It was a joy to go through VPPLA with Wes and see the respect he’s earned across the region as a champion of public power and standout leader in the field.
“As the industry continues to grow and evolve, I’m thankful to have leaders like Wes Kelley at the table to help guide energy policy.”
The academy is an association of Tennessee Valley leaders who attend the one-year program to better connect and learn.
“Wes Kelley is one of the smartest and most thoughtful leaders in the Tennessee Valley. Wes has been in the electric power business for a long time,” said Mark Kimbell, VPPLA Board Chair. “Since I have known Wes, starting around 2007, he has always proven that he is one of the smart ones in any room. Although I am a good bit older than Wes, I always listen intently when he has something to say, because I know that wisdom is in the message.
“I appreciate Wes for his steady hand when dealing with challenges or controversy. He is not forceful, but always brings solutions forward to keep our industry moving in the right direction.”
Also honored was Jessica Dufner, TVA director of Business Communications as “Emerging Leader.” Based in Chattanooga, Dufner has been with the federally owned electric utility corporation for more than three and half years.
