HUNTSVILLE — Working in neighborhoods and off-the-road areas, Huntsville Utilities Electric Operations Crews continue to make repairs following Tuesday night’s severe weather.
The HU crews, with the assistance of Decatur Utilities and contractor Gridco crews, will continue to work until all service is restored. Due to the extent of the damage, restoration estimates are not available, the utility said in a news release.
Frequent lightning high winds (some from tornadoes) left heavy system damage scattered across Madison County, with extensive impacts in the area of Gurley, in and around Killingsworth Cove community, parts of Madison in the immediate area surrounding Gillespie Road and atop the Monte Sano area of Huntsville to include Dug Hill Road, Huntsville Utilities said.
These areas were affected significantly and require additional resources to repair and restore electric service.
As of 4:30 p.m. today, Huntsville Utilities reported:
- 238 customers without power (down from more than 18,000 Tuesday night)
- 14 poles down
- 1 pole damaged/leaning
- 16 lines down
Customers are reminded to not approach or drive over power lines. Also, customers should not attempt to remove trees, limbs, or debris from power lines.
