Thousands of customers in northern Madison County will experience planned power outages next week as Huntsville Utilities begins a major infrastructure upgrade project aimed at increasing electrical capacity and reliability in one of the area’s fastest-growing regions.
The utility announced this week that crews will conduct system upgrades from June 22-26 in areas east of U.S. Highway 231/431 and north of Winchester Road. The work is designed to support continued residential and commercial growth while improving long-term service reliability.
To safely complete the project, Huntsville Utilities said electric service will be interrupted at various times throughout the week for customers in affected neighborhoods.
“This project will ensure capacity and reliability and help support load growth in the area,” Huntsville Utilities said in a statement.
The outages will occur on different streets each day between June 22 and June 26, with work generally scheduled between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday’s outages are expected to occur from noon to 3 p.m.
Affected areas include portions of Meridianville, New Market and surrounding communities, with dozens of neighborhoods and roads scheduled for temporary outages throughout the week.
Customers impacted by the work will receive automated phone notifications from Huntsville Utilities. A map showing the work area is also available on the utility’s website.
Huntsville Utilities acknowledged the inconvenience but said the upgrades are necessary to maintain reliable service as demand continues to increase across northern Madison County.
“While we know this service interruption will be inconvenient, we appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we work to provide reliable and efficient utility services,” the utility said.
