Madison County to shine green in support of veterans for Operation Green Light

Madison County will light up green in November to honor the more than 34,000 veterans who call the county home.

The Madison County Commission will illuminate county buildings with green lights Nov. 4-11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties to recognize veterans and raise awareness of resources available to them and their families.

Madison County Commissioner Violet Edwards, who is spearheading the local effort, said the lights are a visible reminder of the community’s appreciation for those who have served.

“Operation Green Light is a simple but meaningful way for Madison County to show our gratitude to the men and women who have served our country,” Edwards said. “When we light our buildings green, we are reminding our veterans that they are seen, valued, and supported.”

The county is partnering with Gentry-Isom VFW Post 2702 to help connect veterans with local, state and federal resources.

Over the past four years, Madison County has distributed more than 1,600 green light bulbs to residents and community partners, encouraging participation beyond county buildings.

“Gentry-Isom VFW Post 2702 is extremely proud to continue our partnership with our District 6 Commissioner, Violet Edwards, and the Madison County Commission on the Operation Green Light project,” said Dennis Hart, 66th commander of Gentry-Isom VFW Post 2702. “This initiative demonstrates Madison County’s strong support and appreciation of our veterans. We highly encourage all residents of Madison County to participate and join us in honoring our veterans.”

Residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to join the effort by displaying a green light Nov. 4-11, leading up to Veterans Day.
