Governor Kay Ivey recently selected State Rep. Joe Lovvorn to join the 18-member board of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.
In Huntsville on Wednesday, Lovvorn (R-Auburn) kicked off his new role by attending his first meeting as a member of the panel. For Lovvorn, a Space Camp alumnus, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center has special significance.
“Alabama built the rockets that carried men to the moon and continues to play an essential role in the space program today, so I look forward to helping share that story with the 650,000 visitors who tour the rocket center annually,” Lovvorn said. “Equally important is the work we do to inspire the next generation of engineers, astronauts, inventors, and explorers through Space Camp and all of the associated programs and experiences it offers.”
The board, also known as the “Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission, oversees operations of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center museum and its affiliates – Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, U.S. Cyber Camp, and Robotics Camp.
Lovvorn is currently serving his third term in the Alabama House and chairs the body’s Rules Committee. He previously chaired the House Technology and Research Committee.
