John Roberts launches first campaign ad, targets rising cost of living

John Roberts is talking about the prices that hit closest to home.

In his first campaign ad, released Monday on social media, the Republican candidate for Alabama State Senate District 2 walks viewers through the daily squeeze felt by working families in North Alabama — from the gas pump to the grocery aisle — and lays out what he says he will do about it in Montgomery.

“As a husband and father raising a family here in North Alabama, I feel the rising cost of everyday life in my own household,” Roberts says in the roughly one-minute spot. “From the gas station to the grocery store, Alabamians are feeling the pain of rising costs.”

The ad intercuts Roberts speaking directly to camera in a kitchen setting with scenes of him pumping gas, talking with residents and working alongside tradesmen. On-screen text drives the message: “Demand Accountability,” “Cut Wasteful Spending” and “More Money in Your Pocket.”

“In Montgomery, I’ll demand accountability, cut wasteful spending, and fight to keep more money in the pockets of working families,” he says.

Roberts also highlights his role in starting the North Alabama Homebuilding Academy, a free workforce training program he helped launch while working with the Huntsville Madison County Builders Association. The academy has trained hundreds of people for construction trades.

“When our community needed more skilled workers, I helped start a school to train them,” Roberts says. “That taught me how to solve problems, listen, do your homework, and get things done. And that’s exactly what I’ll do as your next state senator.”

He closes by promising to stand up for schools, jobs and local values while pushing for a larger share of state tax dollars to return to the district.

“I’ll stand up for our schools, our jobs, and our values,” he says. “I’ll always fight for North Alabama’s fair share, because more of the tax dollars we send to Montgomery should come back home.”

“I’m John Roberts, and I’d be honored to have your vote for State Senate District 2.”

The video was produced for social media only and is the first ad of Roberts’ general-election campaign. District 2 covers portions of Madison and Limestone counties. Roberts, a real estate and development manager with Freedom Real Estate & Capital, advanced unopposed in the Republican primary. He faces Democrat Rudolph Drake in the Nov. 3 general election.

Roberts previously served as business retention and expansion director for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber and has emphasized infrastructure, workforce development and affordability throughout his campaign. He and his wife, Madison, live in Huntsville with their young sons.
