A message from City Council President John Seifert
I’ve called Madison home for more than 20 years, and it has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as your District 7 councilmember.
This city isn’t just where I live, it’s where my family and friends are, where I’ve built relationships, and where I’ve worked alongside neighbors to make our community stronger. Over the past nine years on the council, I’ve been proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited for what’s still ahead.
Over my time on the council, I’ve been proud to help move Madison forward in ways that matter. We secured critical funding for our schools, including improved security and new facilities to support our growing community. We invested in Town Madison and Toyota Field, sparking new economic growth that now adds to our city’s general fund. We’ve transformed spaces like Sunshine Oaks Park and the former Three Springs facility into places for families to gather and grow. And we’ve expanded sidewalks, trails, and greenways so our city is safer and more connected. These are just a few examples of what we’ve done together and there is still more work ahead.
I’ll admit, I’ve never been the best at bragging on myself, so I thought I’d let some of my friends and neighbors tell you about the John Seifert they know.
Cynthia McCollum, Former City Councilwoman
“I’m going to take a just a brief moment to talk to you about John Seifert, not only the Councilman that has served this city in a leadership position on the Madison City Council, guiding its growth and managing, managing the the fiscal responsibilities of the city, but also about Councilman Seifert and his work ethics. He is committed to working for the people of this of this city. I believe John thinks that this is a biblical calling and he takes it very seriously. He works for every citizen in the city of Madison, not only in his district, but for all citizens of Madison and he’s committed to it, truly committed. John is a man of great integrity and I have always been impressed.”
Marc Jacobson, former City Councilman, City Administrator and led the forming of Madison City Schools
“So we’ve known the family for over 15 years. Heather actually taught our daughter in 3rd grade, so clearly we trusted them with the important stuff early on. I’ve watched John on the City Council and honestly I’m not sure how he stays so calm during those meetings. I’d need snacks and a stress ball, but that’s John. Thoughtful, steady and always focused on what’s best for Madison. He’s the kind of leader who’s not in it for the spotlight. He just quietly gets things done. With all the changes coming, we need someone like John to keep us grounded. He’s solid, smart and honestly just a really good guy. And that’s the John I know.”
Dr Terri Johnson, Long-time Resident of Madison, Planning Commission Member and Former President of Madison City Schools Board of Education
“The John I know is a thoughtful listener. I’ve noticed that when people are speaking to him at Planning Commission meetings or City Council meetings, he’s always listening carefully to what they’re saying. He wants to fully absorb what they say, and he’s not just thinking about his answer when you’re speaking. His answers show that he was listening carefully and he asked follow up questions and he’s always respectful, even sometimes when the speaker is not. Sometimes the person has a mistaken idea about what council can and cannot do about a situation, and John is always kind and calm when he corrects them. The John I know takes the time to explain the why behind his votes, he does his homework, and he takes the job of representing District 7 very seriously. The John I know is an excellent candidate for District 7.”
Coach Johnny Johnson, Head Baseball Coach, JCHS
“The John I know is a guy that’s got a smile on his face, he loves to interact with people, he loves his family and he loves a little baseball. When I moved to Madison as the head baseball coach at James Clements High School, we had a mutual friend in Tim Holsey who is his father-in-law and also the long time baseball coach at Enterprise State Community College. And so we hit it off and met quickly when Tim found out I was moving to Madison. And John was always willing to jump in and help if I needed information or anything when I was new to town. And did it with a smile on his face. And a guy that just really loves the interaction with people, really loves to show his servant heart and, and be a part of things in building things and does it with a smile on his face. And so I’ve always appreciated that about John. And so that’s the John I know.”
Connie Spears, Madison City Council and Former Madison City Schools School Board Member
“The John I know works hard for our city. Every single day he’s gathering information so that we have all we need to make hard decisions. He’s building consensus among the council. He is looking forward. He is looking forward to the promising future we have in Madison. I’m so proud of the job that he’s done and I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.”
Mike Potter, Former City Councilman, Current Planning Commission Vice Chair
“I’ve known John Seifert since he first was interested in running for City Council, and he came to me and asked me how life on the council was and was very curious and very insightful about the questions he asked on serving. I’ve watched John since he’s been in office, I’ve watched him on council, and I’ve been honored to serve with him on Madison’s Planning Commission. John makes thoughtful decisions, he studies the issues, and he has the corporate knowledge that we’re in danger of losing in this next election. I hope people in District 7 will keep John on the council because he’s a straight shooter and he is an asset to our city government. That’s how I know John.”

I’m deeply grateful to my friends and neighbors for their incredible support, together we’re all building a community we can all be proud of. I would be honored to continue this work for our city and I ask for your support by voting for me on August 26.
