Democrat candidate Hanu Karlapalem has announced the launch of his campaign for Alabama House District 4 with a public kickoff event set for April 4 in Madison.

Karlapalem, a Madison resident of 26 years and small technology business owner, is running for the District 4 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives.

The kickoff event, billed by the campaign as “Four-Four at Four for District Four,” is scheduled for 4 p.m. April 4 at the Best Western Plus Hotel on Madison Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public.

According to the announcement, Karlapalem has served as a Life Member and former second vice president of the Limestone County NAACP and is a former University of Alabama in Huntsville Alumni Association board member. He holds a Master of Science in management information systems from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

“This campaign is about An Alabama We Can Afford — lower costs, stronger public schools, real healthcare. That’s my platform,” Karlapalem said. “While Alabama families are tightening their belts, the supermajority legislature and the special interests are tightening their grip on Alabamians. My years of service to the community in Northern Alabama demonstrates my commitment to its people. I am running because the people of District 4 deserve a fresh start and new leadership.”

His campaign is centered on three principles; Economy First, People First and Constitution First, along with priorities that include lowering costs for families, strengthening public schools and expanding access to healthcare.

“I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States,” Karlapalem said. “My loyalty is to that Constitution — not to kings, not to special interests, and not to any party above the law. I am asking for your vote on November 3rd to build an Alabama we can afford.”

Karlapalem previously ran for mayor of Madison in 2016 and for Limestone County Commission in 2018. He will face incumbent Republican Rep. Parker Moore in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. House District 4 includes portions of Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties.
