TUSCUMBIA — Chris King has been appointed to the District 4 seat of the Tuscumbia City Council.

King’s appointment was approved at Monday’s City Council meeting. It fills the vacancy left by Scott Smart, who resigned in June after serving 6 1/2 years on the council.

“I am thrilled and excited to get to serve the city in this capacity,” said King, who is director of marketing for Bank Independent. “I’ll continue in my role at the bank, but I’m very excited to get to take the leadership principles and commitment to the community I’ve experienced at Bank Independent to serve in a new way.

“My granddad also served Tuscumbia as mayor in the 1980s, so my love for the city and passion for public service runs deep.”
