HUNTSVILLE — City Councilman Bill Kling was re-elected for a 10th term as the District 4 representative in the Huntsville municipal elections Tuesday night.
Kling, who was first elected to the post in 1988, defeated Mark Clouser 1,716 (59.11% of the vote) to 1,125 (38.75%). The late Jackie Reed, who died last month, received 62 votes for 2.14%.
For Kling, the vote was akin to “marching orders” from his constituents.
“I think this election shows who the true bosses are whom candidates need to be listening to,” he said. “It is the people in the neighborhoods. These are the people whom candidates need to be listening to, and not the out of district ‘power organizations.’
“I feel I’ve got my marching orders for the new term.”
In the District 3 city school board race, Andrea Alvarez will face Angela McClure in a runoff. Alvarez received 47.97% (1,557) and McClure collected 26.83% (871) of the votes. Incumbent Elisa Farrell was third with 818 votes for 25.2%. The runoff is Sept. 20.
School board incumbent Ryan Renaud held on to his seat in District 4 defeating challenger Ricky Howard 1,885 (68.87%) to 852 (31.13%).
In the school board District 2 race, Holly McCarty won with 3,243 votes (66.01%). She defeated Sean Lulofs (1,358 votes for 27.64%) and Jeniece Willis Wilmer (312 votes for 6.35%).
There will be a runoff in the City Council District 2 race between David Little (43.27%) and Bill Yell (23.72%). Little received 2,178 votes to 1,194 for Yell. Finishing third was Danny Peters with 1,025 votes for 20.37%; followed by Brian Foy (447 votes for 8.88%) and Drake Daggett (189 votes for 3.76%).
