LEIGHTON – Take a walk through Christmas Past this weekend at LaGrange College Site’s annual Christmas in the Country. The festivities are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Held each year on the weekend before Thanksgiving, Christmas in the Country gives visitors a taste of the holidays when they were mostly homemade. Natural, handmade ornaments and fresh greenery will decorate the log buildings inside the historic park.
The Welcome Center will have baked goods for sale, with proceeds going to the upkeep and maintenance of the historic site, the first home of the University of North Alabama.
Once your sweets have been secured, grab your camera and take a self-guided tour through the pioneer village. The true-to-the-period kitchen, barbershop, and chapel all make perfect backdrops for holiday photos.
Santa will also make an appearance and he’ll be ready for photos, too. Hayrides to the top of the mountain and to the historic LaGrange Cemetery will give you a scenic break from walking.
The Shoals Astronomy Club will also be on hand to host a tour of young stargazers at the LaGrange Observatory. Astronomy handouts will be available.
Vendors, arts and crafts, and concessions will be onsite, too. For more information contact Louise Lenz at 256-702-6953 or [email protected].
The festivities are free, but donations to help keep the park going are always welcome. www.lagrangehistoricsite.org.
