MOULTON — Let the good times roll!
And the city of Moulton is planning just that is it gears up for the annual Moulton Mardi Gras Parade, set for this week.
Now in its fourth year, the parade promises a vibrant display of festive floats, local talent and community spirit as it travels through the heart of the community.
This year’s parade features a blend of Mardi Gras-themed floats, patriotic floats and the spirited energy of local high school bands and dance teams, all contributing to the fun and excitement. The parade starts at 6 p.m. at Moulton Middle School and ends at the school, winding its way around the square with a spectacular showcase of creativity and pride.
Before the parade, the community will gather Tuesday to crown this year’s King and Queen of Mardi Gras. The royal court will be announced during a special ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. at 2701 Byler Road in Moulton.
The Moulton Mardi Gras Parade is a family-friendly event and is open to all. Local businesses, community groups and families are encouraged to come out and join in the celebration.
In addition to the parade and crowning of the King and Queen, the Moulton Mardi Gras festivities will kick off with the first-ever Mardi Gras Grand Masquerade Ball on Feb. 14 at The Sherrod, 421 Tennessee Street in Courtland. This elegant event will run from 6:30-10 p.m. and includes dinner, dancing and live music. Tickets are $65 per person, with table sponsorships available, and may be purchased from https://www.visitcourtland.
Proceeds from the ball, along with funds from the Mardi Gras Parade and fundraising efforts from King and Queen candidates, benefit the Byler Road Project Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships for high school students in Lawrence County.
The Mardi Gras festivities have funded 27 scholarships over the past three years, helping local students pursue higher education.
