HUNTSVILLE — Leonardo Electronics recently celebrated 15 years in Huntsville, a milestone for the company that started out in a small multi-use facility for one of Leonardo’s business units, Sensor Solutions in 2008.
Since then, Sensor Solutions has morphed into the Leonardo DRS (data reduction software) Land Electronics line. The company provides advanced components and systems for platform and network capabilities, as well as field and sustainment level diagnostic tools.
Leonardo DRS’s 131,500 square-foot facility in Redstone Gateway includes a 24,000-square foot vehicle integration building. The facility played a crucial role as the Huntsville Engineering and Manufacturing/Repair Center of Excellence for land electronics.
The company said they are now capable of designing, developing, and implementing sophisticated electrical, electromechanical and electronic systems, subsystems, and assemblies for Department of Defense and commercial applications.
Leonardo DRS offers advanced imaging technology to develop laser diode and sensor solutions to meet space and defense challenges and environments in support of the military, space and commercial applications.
Leonardo Electronics is the laser system supplier to Apache helicopters, F35 fighters, and other DoD programs.
“We are proud of our employees and their continued work to make our facility an exceptional environment,” said a company spokesperson. “They exhibit unwavering dedication to innovation and advancements in aerospace, defense, and security.
“We look forward to continuing to provide our customers with advanced technologies contributing to mission readiness for the next fifteen years and beyond.”
