ATHENS — Limestone County’s population is growing fast and exploding like cotton.

In fact, Limestone County has the second highest county growth rate in the state of Alabama. Oh, not to mention it is the state’s leading cotton producer.

To address the county’s growth and trends, officials is developing a strategic plan entitled “Leading Limestone” and the community is urged to take part in the process.

It is a “future-oriented plan designed to guide growth, investment and community development over the next decade,” according to a statement from Limestone County Commission Chair Collin Daly.

“Developed with input from county leaders and community members, the plan will lay the foundation for a more connected, prosperous and resilient Limestone County,” Daly said.

The county has set a series of public meetings over the next 12 months to begin working on planning for the future. The final product will be a strategic plan that will guide county leadership through implementation of the strategies and goals developed throughout the process.

The first meetings will be targeted for four areas of the county.
