Limestone County has once again been named the fastest-growing county in Alabama, marking the seventh consecutive year it has held the top spot, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The county’s population reached 122,928 in 2025, an increase of 3,877 residents, or 3.3 percent, over the previous year. Since the 2020 Census, Limestone County has added more than 19,000 residents, reflecting an overall growth rate of 18.7 percent.

The latest figures rank Limestone County as the 10th most populous county in the state, narrowing the gap with neighboring Morgan County to just 3,555 residents. Officials say the current pace of growth could push Limestone ahead of Morgan County as early as this year.

“This isn’t a streak we take for granted,” said Bethany Shockney, President and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. “Every person who chose to put down roots here reflects the work our community has done to build a place where businesses and industries grow and families thrive. This growth is the result of strategic investment, a strong workforce, and the kind of quality of life you can’t manufacture.”

Local leaders credit the sustained growth to a combination of economic development efforts, infrastructure investment, and the county’s proximity to the Huntsville metropolitan area, which continues to drive job creation and population increases across North Alabama.

“Limestone County is growing because people see what we see every day: a community that invests in its future,” said Collin Daly, Chairman of the Limestone County Commission. “Our commission is committed to making sure that as our population grows, our infrastructure, public services, and quality of life grow with it.”

Officials say the county’s expanding workforce pipeline and recent economic development wins have helped attract billions of dollars in capital investment, positioning the area as one of the Southeast’s most competitive industrial markets.

The U.S. Census Bureau releases updated population estimates annually each spring.
