HUNTSVILLE — Get a haircut. Have some fun. Be a hero.
That’s the secret for Saturday’s annual “Live Bald” benefit.
The volunteer-driven fundraiser benefits the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants in the U.S. It will be held Saturday from 1-7 p.m. at The Camp in Huntsville’s MidCity District.
The free-to-attend, family friendly event will feature live performances by six local bands — including Microwave Dave and The Shane Davis Group — plus nearly 20 Shavees, nine volunteer barbers, a basket raffle, silent auction, themed drinks, face painting, live art by Float, special appearances from the 501st Star Wars group and others.
Founded in 2016, Live Bald Huntsville has already raised over $130,000, with 100% of proceeds supporting St. Baldrick’s and its mission to fund lifesaving research, including at Huntsville’s HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology.
After a pandemic-related pause and a change in venue, the event is making a significant comeback thanks to a new long-term partnership with The Camp.
Each year, more than 400,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer, and in the U.S., one in five children with cancer will not survive. More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease.
