MADISON – With the municipal election quickly approaching, the Madison Chamber of Commerce and All Things Madison are teaming up to present a community event designed to educate and empower local voters.
A candidate connection forum and reception will take place Thursday at James Clemens High School from 6-8:30 p.m.
“Local elections matter more than most people realize,” said Erica DeSpain, president and CEO of All Things Madison. “The individuals we elect directly influence our everyday lives — from how traffic is managed to how our neighborhoods develop.
“This forum and reception will equip voters with the information they need to make informed choices.”
The free, public event offers Madison residents a unique opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for mayor and city council — before casting their ballots. The election is Aug. 26.
A forum covering issues ranging from growth and infrastructure to parks, schools, and quality of life will start off the event.
Following the forum, there will be a casual reception to meet the candidates one-on-one in a non-campaign setting.
“Our mission is simple,” said Chamber President Michelle Epling. “We want to create community connections and grow businesses. This event helps the Madison community feel confident, informed, and connected when they vote.
“Because this is our home and we believe in the power of civic engagement.”
