MADISON — A program dedicated to providing Madison City Schools seniors with the chance to explore the medical field is continuing to grow in numbers and impact.
According to the school system, the Madison Hospital Ambassador Program is specifically focused on intentional leadership, career pathways, and relationship development.
“Madison Hospital ambassadors shadow many areas of the hospital, clinical and nonclinical, to explore fields of medicine and careers throughout the hospital,” said Sara Baragona, a career coach for Madison City Schools. “There are currently 20 students selected for this program, 10 currently in rotations at the hospital, and another 10 for the second semester of the school year.”
Students in the program are now fundraising as part of a leadership project. The Cookie Fix program is selling cookie cakes (pre-order) through Dec. 19.
“The current ambassadors have decided to raise money for Madison Hospital’s Canines for Coping facility dog program,” Baragona said. “The Canines for Coping Facility dog program provides joy and emotional support for patients to help them cope, heal, and achieve treatment goals.
“Also a portion of the money will go toward a college scholarship for the Madison Hospital Student Ambassadors to hopefully carry on for future years.”
Additionally, a Candy Cane Hunt is scheduled for Saturday in the Healing Garden at Madison Hospital to raise funds.
“We will have multiple stations including pictures with Santa, a candy cane hunt, hot chocolate and cookies, and a Christmas craft area for children,” Baragona said. “We have partnered with Cookie Fix to do a pre-order of Candy Cane flavored cookie cakes, this money is also going towards our fundraising and we would love for our flyer to be shared as well. “
The Madison Hospital Ambassador Program is open to high school seniors from James Clemens High School and Bob Jones High School.
