Madison invites community input on use of funds

MADISON – The City of Madison is inviting residents to attend Wednesday’s council work session for a community listening session.

The listening session, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will facilitate discussion with Council representatives and constituents on the use of funds in the Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget for impactful projects.

“After hosting the spring Citizen’s Awareness Academy session, we heard from engaged citizens that they want to be more involved in the budget process,” said Mayor Paul Finley. “This listening session is a great way to hear from our residents about where they would like to see their dollars make a difference.”

Madison residents will be given two minutes each to address Council and provide input on where revenues should be spent in the City of Madison. Work sessions are not generally open to public comments, however, the listening session provides transparency and an additional avenue for residents to voice their opinions.

“We view this as an opportunity to follow our mission statement by providing excellent services through the responsible use of public resources, enhancing the quality of life for our community,” Finley said.

Councilmember Connie Spears said she and other members of the council are looking forward to the opportunity to hear from residents.

“We’re always eager to listen to the concerns of citizens,” she said. “And this suggestion, which came out of the Civic Awareness Academy is one more avenue for citizens to to talk with their counsel.”

The session will be in the Council Chambers at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Road.
