McCutcheon, Underwood named to Athens State Board of Trustees

ATHENS – State Rep. Mac McCutcheon (R-Monrovia) and business CEO Mike Underwood have been appointed to the Athens State University Board of Trustees, the university announced today.

Gov. Kay Ivey made the appointments which are for seven-year terms beginning Oct. 1 and ending Sept. 30, 2029.

“While we will miss our departing board members who have served the institution well, we look forward to Speaker McCutcheon and Mr. Underwood joining us,” said State Sen. Arthur Orr, board chairman. “Athens State holds much promise for the future and we need wise leaders like Mac and Mike to help us navigate that path.”

McCutcheon was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006 for District 25 and has served as Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives since 2016. An Army veteran, he spent 25 years with the Huntsville Police Department before retiring. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Calhoun Community College and a bachelor’s in criminal justice administration from Trinity University. McCutcheon is a native of Madison County and lives in Monrovia.

Underwood is CEO of TriGreen Equipment. He grew up in a farming community in Colbert County and his family has been in the John Deere business for 75 years. Underwood serves on the Calhoun Community College Foundation Board and Alabama Future Farmers of America and the First Metro Bank Board of Directors. He earned a bachelor’s in management and marketing from the University of North Alabama and resides in Athens.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of Athens State with quarterly meetings open to the public. The members of the board include Ivey (ex-officio president), Orr (chair), Jim America (vice chair), Chancellor Jimmy Baker, Mary C. Dickens, Bill Dunnavant, Dus Rogers,  Dr. Sandra Sims-deGraffenried, and Missy Ming Smith.
