Meet the folks keeping Huntsville ‘magical’ at the Bazaar at the Belle

“Keep Huntsville Magical” is one of Fow Wow Design’s most popular T-shirts. Founder Johnathan Fowler said when he started in 2014, there weren’t a lot of local goods highlighting what he calls the magical aspects of the Rocket City.

Fow Wow Designs is one of the many local vendors and creators who will be on hand Sunday, May 1, for the “Bazaar at the Belle” happening at Stovehouse in Huntsville. The pop-up marketplace will be indoors and out, open to all ages, with free admission.

“I came up with a design that said ‘Keep Huntsville Magical’ with a unicorn and Saturn V rocket for the horn, and the mane is kind of like the blast off,” explained Fowler. “I only made four of the shirts to begin with; two tank tops and two T-shirts.”

Fow Wow Designs, famously known for their Huntsville-focused T-shirt designs, boasts the tagline, “Hometown Freshness for Shirtless Souls.” The “Keep Huntsville Magical” T-shirt is now one of their bestsellers. Other customer favorites include their “Wisk You Were Here” with Huntsville’s famous “Egg-Beater Jesus” and “Redstone Arsenal – Stranger Noises” as an ode to the popular “Stranger Things” series on Netflix.

Fowler said it means a lot to be part of the Bazaar at the Belle.

“It creates a collaborative environment of artists. I love to support our local folks, to be a part of this community,” he added.

The Bazaar at the Belle is another community creation from Jeremy Concepcion, a manager of the Electric Belle. Conception said this is an affordable alternative for artists and makers to showcase their work.

“It’s only a ten-dollar fee to be a vendor to make it affordable for all artists. Art should be accessible to everyone,” declared Concepcion. “These are local people and groups, let’s show off our local artists and entrepreneurs.”

The brains behind the AM Collective, Ashli Ingram and Michaela Maxey, will also be on hand. Describing the collective as a curation of everything they love, the two business owners say they appreciate a chance to showcase the creative community in Huntsville.

Ingram stated, “Ever since the pandemic hit, there’s been this bond between everyone and connection that has brought us all together, working together and promoting each other.”

“There’s no competition between us, we’re all in this together,” added Maxey.

In addition to offerings from the bar at The Belle and numerous Stovehouse food options, Conception said the day will have something for everyone, including those seeking insight.

“The profound Melanie Earwood will be here offering tarot card readings,” he advised.

Earwood said the city of Huntsville offers an opportunity to be authentic and true, adding, “If you are brave and you are bold and you do the work, that kind of stuff gets noticed here.”

The Bazaar at the Belle runs from 2 – 8 p.m., Sunday, May 1, at Stovehouse in Huntsville.
