Meta’s Huntsville Data Center expanding; providing $300,000 in grants for local schools and STEM programs

HUNTSVILLE — Meta’s Huntsville Data Center is expanding locally by adding two new buildings to their campus, bringing Meta’s Huntsville footprint up to nearly 3.5 million square feet for a total investment of more than $1.5 billion in the Huntsville market.

Once completed, the data center is estimated to support more than 300 operational jobs.

But in addition to growing their campus, Meta also announced they are issuing two new academic grants totaling $300,000 in support of local schools and STEM education.

Meta is providing $225,000 in support of the Raise Your Hand program with The Schools Foundation, a new initiative that aims to add 500 new National Board-Certified Teachers to the Huntsville City, Madison City and Madison County school systems. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.

Meta is also providing $75,000 to the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering in support of STEM equipment for the school. With these two grants, Meta has given more than $1.5 million to local schools in Huntsville since 2019.

Meta runs its data centers with 100% renewable energy and makes additional contributions to local economies through investments in new wind and solar projects. The Meta-contracted project has added 227MWs of new renewable energy in Alabama.
