HUNTSVILLE — The roadways may seem clear across the Tennessee Valley this morning, but the National Weather Service Huntsville office advises motorists not to be misled by what they see.
Although temperatures rose above 40 degrees during the day Sunday, shaded areas have been slower to fully melt; any residual liquid in these areas will likely freeze and cause localized hazardous road conditions into the mid-morning hours today.
“There is a low chance of patchy, freezing fog early this morning in sheltered river valleys and near large bodies of water in northeast Alabama,” the weather service said. “This could create additional black ice concerns, especially on bridges and overpasses through mid-morning.”
The forecasters said cold temperatures will persist through the middle of the week before we begin a gradual warming trend into the weekend with rain likely.
This week’s highs will reach into the 40s, but overnight temperatures will be in the low to mid-20s through Thursday.
