N. Alabama airports benefit from ALDOT airport improvement program

MONTGOMERY — Four area airports are sharing some $600,000 in state funding awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation for improvements.

Statewide, ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program provided $3.6 million in state grants to 16 local airports. Through the program, financial assistance and other engineering or technical services can be provided to airport owners regarding the acquisition, construction, expansion, maintenance, or operation of public airport facilities.

  • Albertville Regional Airport will receive $253,856 from a state grant for the microsurfacing of a terminal apron. The City of Albertville will also provide $84,619 in matching local funds, for a total project value of $338,475.
  • Cullman Regional-Folsom Field will receive $185,107 from a state grant for sealcoating and pavement repair of a taxilane. The City of Cullman will also provide $61,702 in matching local funds for a total project value of $209,008.
  • Guntersville Municipal Airport will receive $104,858 from a state grant for pavement maintenance of the old terminal apron and runway. The City of Guntersville will also provide $34,953 in matching local funds for a total project value of $139,811.
  • Huntsville Executive Airport, Tom Sharp Jr. Field will receive $1,624,573 from the Federal Aviation Administration and $90,254 from a state grant to construct a runway safety area and install wildlife fencing. The Madison County Executive Airport Authority will also provide $90,254 in matching local funds for a total project value of $6,315,037.
