The Port of Huntsville has selected Komara Golf Management as the new contract operator for Sunset Landing Golf Course, a move officials say is aimed at strengthening long-term management and enhancing the public golf experience.
The Huntsville-based company will oversee day-to-day operations, course maintenance, customer service and programming at the airport-adjacent course.
“Sunset Landing Golf Course is an important recreational asset for our community,” said Joey Ceci, chair of the Port of Huntsville Board. “The Board is confident that Komara Golf Management brings the experience, professionalism, and vision needed to position Sunset Landing for future success.”
Located next to Huntsville International Airport’s west runway, Sunset Landing is known for its distinctive setting where golfers play alongside views of arriving and departing aircraft. The 18-hole course features 6,803 yards of native grass fairways and bentgrass greens.
The course plays to a par 72. From the back tees, it carries a course rating of 71.9 with a slope rating of 118. From the white tees, the course rating is 66.9 with a slope of 108. Course rating measures the difficulty for a scratch golfer, while slope rating indicates relative difficulty for an average golfer.
Butch Roberts, CEO of the Port of Huntsville, said the partnership aligns with the Port’s broader mission of maintaining well-managed public facilities.
“Sunset Landing has long been a place where aviation and golf come together in a truly distinctive way,” Roberts said. “This partnership with Komara supports our goal of delivering well-managed facilities that serve both our local community and visitors traveling through our Airport.”
Komara Golf Management also owns and operates Southern Gayles Golf Club & Grill in Athens. Company representatives said their focus at Sunset Landing will be on customer service and hospitality.
“Sunset Landing Golf Course holds a special place in this community, and our priority is creating a welcoming, service-driven environment from the moment guests arrive,” said Greg Komara of Komara Golf Management. “Whether someone is playing 18 holes, visiting the renovated clubhouse, or attending an event, we are committed to delivering a hospitality experience that is attentive, consistent, and memorable every time.”
Plans for the course include renovations to the clubhouse and the addition of a full-service bar and grill. Additional details about future improvements are expected in the coming weeks.
Sunset Landing is open to the public and is located adjacent to Huntsville International Airport and the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
