SHEFFIELD – The new Shoals VA Clinic opened last week with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony in Sheffield. Among the new offerings for local veterans are audiology and optometry services.
The clinic features 18 patient rooms for primary care, women’s health, and mental health. It totals over 16,000 square feet, an upgrade from the previous 6,300-square-foot clinic, which served the community since 1999.
“Access is something we take seriously in VA,” said Dr. Ladi Kukoyi, Executive Director/CEO of the Birmingham VA Health Care System. “This clinic will make a large impact to veterans in the northern part of Alabama in terms of access, quality of care, and a state-of-the-art facility.”
Florence Mayor Andy Betterton also spoke about the new clinic.
“This new facility reflects (the VA’s) ongoing commitment to honoring and serving the men and women who have bravely served our country,” said Betterton. “We are proud they have built this comprehensive facility in the Shoals.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony included nearly 100 guests to commemorate the occasion, including staffers from the offices of Sen. Tommy Tuberville, Sen. Katie Britt, Congressman Robert Aderholt, and Congressman Dale Strong, as well as the mayors of Florence and Sheffield. Members of local Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), community leaders, and VA staff also joined to celebrate this milestone.
The clinic begins accepting new patients starting today and is located at 410 Cox Blvd. in Sheffield.
