No. 3 UAH uses efficient second half to beat Lee; advance to GSC Tournament semifinals

HUNTSVILLE — The Gulf South Conference’s Player of the Year lived up to his billing Tuesday night at Spragins Hall.

University of Alabama-Huntsville senior Tommy Murr led the way offensively with 26 points to carry the Chargers to a solid 86-67 win over Lee in the GSC men’s basketball tournament quarterfinals.

With the win, the top-seeded Chargers advance to face No. 5 seed Delta State in the conference semifinals Saturday in Birmingham.

The win was the 28th straight for UAH (28-1), the nation’s No. 3-ranked team, who trailed Lee 36-35 at the half.

Murr was 10-of-18 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 from three for UAH. Fellow First Team All-GSC honoree Blake Campbell had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The grad student added four assists.

The Chargers outscored Lee 51-31 on 66.7% shooting in the second half, including 7-for-11 from three-point range.

Second-Team All-GSC big man Daniel Saylor scored 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting with eight rebounds and a block for UAH.

Overall, the Chargers outpaced the Flames in assists 16-to-7 and outrebounded them 32-to-23.
