HUNTSVILLE — Unlike racing at Talladega and Bristol, there will be no left turns along a stretch of North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville for several months.
As part of the initial stages of the overpass bridge construction at the interchange, The Alabama Department of Transportation said the left turn lanes on North Memorial Parkway (U.S. 231/431) at Mastin Lake Road in Huntsville will be closed for safety reasons.
ALDOT said the closure will begin around 9 a.m. Monday and would be for several months.
Northbound motorists who want to turn left on Mastin Lake Road must continue north to a crossover to turn around, ALDOT said. Multiple crossovers on the north end of the project remain accessible, including:
- Gilbreath Road/Stallworth Road, which includes a large, paved area on the west edge of the road that can provide additional space for commercial vehicles to complete U-turns
- Medaris Road, which includes a left turn lane
- Industrial Drive
- Winchester Road, a signalized intersection with a left turn lane and protected left signal
Traffic heading south for eastbound Mastin Lake Road must continue south and either U-turn at the Sparkman Drive overpass or take U.S. 72 east to Mastin Lake Road.
