The Alabama Retail Association is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Alabama Retailer of the Year awards, with submissions open through May 29.
Now in its 26th year, the annual awards recognize businesses across the state that demonstrate excellence in retail operations, innovation and community impact.
“Across Alabama, retailers are more than just places to shop. They are cornerstones of their communities,” said Rick Brown, president of the Alabama Retail Association. “From small towns to larger cities, these businesses create jobs, support local initiatives and help define the character of the places we call home.”
Eligible nominees must own, operate or manage a retail business with a physical presence in Alabama and collect state and local sales taxes. The awards are open to a wide range of industries, including food, clothing, furniture, hardware, outdoor equipment and specialty retail.
Brown encouraged residents to recognize standout businesses in their communities.
“Every community in Alabama has retailers who make a difference,” he said. “We encourage Alabamians to take a moment to recognize those businesses by submitting a nomination.”
Recent winners include Hissyfits Boutique, which earned the 2025 honor, and Huntsville-based ChurchStreet Family Restaurant & Hospitality Group, named Retailer of the Year in 2024.
The Alabama Retail Association represents roughly 4,500 businesses statewide and advocates for the retail industry at both the state and federal levels.
