More than $1.5 million in state transportation funding is headed to North Alabama as part of a broader statewide infrastructure package announced Thursday by Governor Kay Ivey.

The governor announced more than $7.6 million in grants through the Alabama Department of Transportation Annual Grant Program, funded through the Rebuild Alabama Act. The latest round supports 26 local road and infrastructure projects across the state.

The North Alabama projects receiving funding include road resurfacing, drainage upgrades and roadway rehabilitation projects in Lauderdale, Jackson, DeKalb, Cullman and Cherokee counties.

“If you are driving from one place to the next in our state, it is hard not to spot a blue Rebuild Alabama sign along the way. That is because we have road and bridge projects happening in all 67 counties,” Ivey said. “These grants are giving our local communities the support they need to take on critical projects. We are going to keep delivering results you can see mile after mile across our state.”

Among the North Alabama awards:

  • Lauderdale County will receive $250,000 in state funding, along with more than $15,000 in local matching funds, to replace drainage structures at 13 sites throughout the county.
  • Langston in Jackson County was awarded $350,000 for resurfacing seven streets within town limits, covering approximately 4.2 miles. The town is contributing nearly $112,000 in matching funds.
  • Henagar in DeKalb County received $250,000 to resurface Andrew Lee Drive from Lake Drive to State Route 75.
  • Cullman County was awarded $350,000 for resurfacing County Road 1659 from County Road 1669 to County Road 1656. Local matching funds total more than $112,000.
  • Cedar Bluff in Cherokee County received $350,000 for resurfacing, rehabilitation and drainage improvements along Sewell Ferry Road and Hidden Cove Circle. The town will contribute $100,000 locally.

The 2026 Annual Grant Program will distribute a total of $15 million this year, exceeding the minimum amount required under the Rebuild Alabama Act by $5 million. Additional awards are expected later this year.

Local governments are also contributing more than $1.9 million in matching funds statewide. Under program guidelines, projects must move forward within one year of funding approval.

Since the passage of the Rebuild Alabama Act in 2019, ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program has awarded more than $78 million for local transportation projects statewide.

More information about the grant program is available through ALDOT Rebuild Alabama Annual Grant Program.
