MONTGOMERY — A fundraising idea from Pryor Field Airport Director Adam Fox is ready for takeoff.
The idea, an aviation-themed license plate, is a commitment to aviation in Alabama, said Fox.
The “Alabama is Aviation” license plate, designed to celebrate the state’s rich aviation heritage and support the future of aviation across Alabama, has been launched by the Aviation Council of Alabama.
“The ‘Alabama is Aviation’ tag represents more than just our passion for the aviation – it’s a commitment to the future of aviation in our state,” said Fox, who also serves as treasurer of the Aviation Council of Alabama. “Every tag sold directly supports scholarships that help young people pursue careers in aviation, ensuring Alabama remains a leader in the industry for generations to come.”
The unique plate, created by Alabama-based design company Elevated Design Co., visually captures the innovation and spirit of flight that defines Alabama’s rich aviation legacy.
But before the plate can go into production, 1,000 pre-commitments are required by the Alabama Department of Revenue.
Alabama residents can secure their plate by submitting a pre-commitment through MyDMV, the Alabama Department of Revenue’s distinctive plate reservation system. The cost is $50, which will be applied to the registration of the plate once the 1,000-commitment goal is met. A voucher will be sent by the Department of Revenue once the commitment goal has been met.
All proceeds from the “Alabama is Aviation” plate will benefit the ACA Foundation, which funds aviation scholarships and educational programs across the state. The funds will directly support students, educators, and programs that inspire and prepare the next generation of aviation professionals in Alabama.
