WASHINGTON — Possibly ending speculation about a run for the Alabama governor’s office, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said he will be running for a second term in the Senate.

Tuberville (R-Auburn) told CNN’s Manu Raju on Capitol Hill late Tuesday that he looks forward to being in the Senate majority for the first time.

“Yeah, I’m running. Yeah, I’m getting on up there. I don’t know how many more times I’ll run, but I enjoy it,” Tuberville was quoted as saying. “I want to find out what it’s like to be in the majority. When you’re in the minority, you just get kicked in the mouth every day, you know. And we’ve been kind of sat on the back bench.

“Now it’s time to take over, see what can be done with President Trump.”

Tuberville had been mentioned as a potential candidate for governor in 2026, when Gov. Kay Ivey leaves office.

He serves on the Agriculture; Armed Services; Veterans Affairs; and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committees. With the Republicans holding a majority in the Senate, Tuberville is a possible choice to chair one of those committees.
