MADISON – The Rocket City Trash Pandas not only salvaged their first series win of the young season Sunday, they’ll leave town on another road trip with a share of first place in the Southern League North.
The Trash Pandas, which split a doubleheader with the Birmingham Barons, won the series finale 5-3 on 4X4 Day at Toyota Field. Huntsville also took the six-game set four games to two.
Huntsville (5-4) and Birmingham (5-4) are knotted atop the division. The Trash Pandas head to the Sunshine State for six games starting Tuesday against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (4-5). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Josh Caray will have the call on WZZN 97.7-HD2.
Sunday, starting pitcher Alan Rangel (1-0) allowed four hits, two runs both earned, walked none and struck out nine. Gustavo Campero had two hits and two RBI and Eric Wagaman and Tucker Flint both had two hits and an RBI.
After the trip to Florida, the Trash Pandas return home for six games against the Tennessee Smokies, who defeated Hunsville 2-1 in a short three-game set to open the season in Knoxville.
